An LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) and a method of manufacturing the LCD are provided to form uniform polysilicon grains in a large size using a light-shielding layer formed under a thin film transistor to improve characteristics of the thin film transistor. An LCD includes a light-shielding layer(103) formed on a substrate(100), a reflecting layer(105) formed on the light-shielding layer, a buffer layer(121) formed on the entire surface of the substrate including the light-shielding layer and the reflecting layer, and a semiconductor layer(114) formed on the portions of the buffer layer which correspond to the light-shielding layer and the reflecting layer. The semiconductor layer includes source and drain dopant regions(114s,114d) formed on both sides thereof. The LCD further includes a gate insulating layer(123) formed on the entire surface of the substrate including the semiconductor layer, a gate electrode(113) formed on a portion of the gate insulating layer corresponding to the center of the semiconductor layer, and source and drain electrodes(115a,115b) electrically connected to the source and drain dopant regions, respectively. |
