An EGR system having improved cooling efficiency is provided to remove contamination of an intake system and cooling water introduced into a combustor by re-circulating the cooling water to an auxiliary tank by an ECU. An EGR system having improved cooling efficiency comprises an EGR pipe(300) for connecting an exhaust manifold(220) with an intake manifold(240) such that a part of exhaust gas discharged from an engine(200) to the exhaust manifold is supplied to the intake manifold. An EGR valve(400) is installed at the EGR pipe to intermittently control introduction of the exhaust gas to the EGR pipe. An EGR cooler(500) transfers cooled exhaust gas by spraying atomized water to the exhaust gas. A cooling water detector(600) facilitates filtering and indirect cooling of the exhaust gas transferred from the EGR cooler. An ECU(700) controls the cooling water detector according to a signal transmitted from the cooling water detector.
