A muffler for a hermetic compressor is provided to insert coupling parts of first and second cases into a coupling groove of a connection element for fixing the connection element into the first and second cases, thereby simplifying the assembling work of the muffler and minimizing the deformation of the connection element during the assembling. A muffler for a hermetic compressor includes a body part having first and second cases(23,25) coupled with each other and forming a noise space(26) therein, coupling parts(35,37) formed on edges of the first and second cases correspondingly to each other, a connection element(40) for transmitting external working fluid into the noise space, and a discharge part(32) formed in any one of the first and second cases for discharging the working fluid to the outside. The connection element has a coupling groove formed between an inner flange(43) and an outer flange(45), wherein the inner flange is protruded from an outer surface of the connection element to contact inner surfaces of the coupling parts closely, outer flange contacts outer surfaces of the coupling parts, and the coupling groove are inserted by the first and second cases. A pair of guide ribs are formed on the inner surfaces of the coupling parts for guiding the inner flange in the coupling direction with respect to the connection element.
