A traffic broadcasting signal selection method and a traffic broadcasting signal selection system are provided to enable a traffic broadcasting signal only of a permissible frequency assigned to the current position of a terminal to be received in the terminal, under TPEG(Transport Protocol Expert Group) environment, so that traffic information optimal for the corresponding position can be automatically extracted. A frequency table(210) matches permissible frequencies with particular coordinates to record the matched information. A GPS(Global Positioning System) unit(220) identifies coordinates where a terminal is currently located, and confirms permissible frequencies corresponding to the identified coordinates from the frequency table. A broadcasting controller(230) selectively receives traffic broadcasting signals of the confirmed permissible frequencies. A traffic information controller(240) extracts traffic information from the traffic broadcasting signals, and a display unit(250) displays the extracted traffic information.
