A backlight unit and a micro display device having the same are provided to improve color purity and clarity of a displayed image by using a high brightness RGB LED(Light Emitting Diode) package. A backlight unit of a micro display device includes a light emitting unit(20), a frame(30), and a film unit(40). The light emitting unit generates light. The frame includes a reflective member which reflects the light from the light emitting unit and adjusts a propagation direction of the light. The film unit is mounted on the frame and diffuses or focuses the light which is reflected from the reflective member. The light emitting unit includes an LED package having at least one red LED chip, at least one green LED chip, and at least one blue LED chip. The LED package includes a molding unit for sealing the LED chips.
