ERROR DETECTION DEVICE AND ERROR DETECTION METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an error detection device capable of diagnosing the failure of an error detection function in detail.

SOLUTION: This error detection device is provided with: a parity bit generation part 1301 for generating error detection data corresponding to a data column transmitted from a CPU I/F 1100 to a memory 1200; a parity check part 1401 for detecting the error of the data column outputted from the memory 1200 based on the error detection data; and a selection circuit 1302 for switching and outputting the data from the parity bit generation part 1301 and the data transmitted from the CPU which transmits data for diagnosis as error detection data corresponding to the data column, wherein the failure of the error detection function including at least one of the parity bit generation part 1301 and the parity check part 1401 is diagnosed based on the error detection data outputted from the selection circuit 1302 when the selection circuit 1302 is put in such a state that the data transmitted from the CPU are outputted.
