PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical-fiber type optical modulator that can improve the optical modulation accuracy by actuating contraction by direct elastic waves on light that passes through a core and that can facilitate miniaturization by integrating it with optical fiber. SOLUTION: In the optical fiber 14 comprising a core 12 and a cladding 13 covering the outer periphery of the core 12, there is formed inside the cladding 13 an optical modulator section 15, comprising a piezoelectric member 16 covering the outer periphery of the core 12 so that the light that passes through the core 12 is modulated by the elastic waves generated from the piezoelectric member 16.
