AN IMPROVED MINIATURISED OPTICAL ENGINE FOR A PROJECTION SYSTEM

The present invention relates to a projection device having a housing defining an optical axis, a light source adapted to emit light in a direction along said optical axis, at least one collimating lens for directing said light over a uniform optical path, an image carrier having an entry surface, and a condensing lens for ensuring that collimated light evenly illuminates the entry surface of the image carrier by condensing all divergent light sources and directing them onto said surface. The light source, the at least one collimating lens, and the condensing lens are aligned in a straight line along the optical axis ensuring minimising space and cost, and maximising efficiency of light transfer. The design enables the device to be considerably smaller than hitherto known projection devices and therefore adapted for use in a wider variety of applications. The reduced number of components and the arrangement of the components further ruggedises the device, allowing it to be used in more severe conditions.
