The invention relates to a method for reducing common-mode current in communication devices that use the power grid as a transmission means, in order to adapt common-mode emission levels to comply with the regulations regarding power grid communications in each country. By reducing the common-mode emission levels of the signals transmitted by the communication devices over the power grid it is possible to optimise the transmitted signal so as to satisfy existing regulations without sacrificing the coverage or performance qualities of the communications system. The invention is characterised by the use of a special common-mode choke at the output of the communication device, which minimises the differential-mode inductance.
