A washing machine is provided to prevent resonance during operation and to reduce vibration of a side cabinet by vibrating a vibration damping unit at opposite phase so as to compensate vibration of the side cabinet. A washing machine comprises a cabinet, a tub, a vibration damping unit(120). The cabinet has a side cabinet(116) forming a side surface of the washing machine. The tub is installed in the cabinet, and stores water. One end of the vibration damping unit integrally vibrates with the side cabinet and the other end of the vibration damping unit is free so as to compensate vibration of the side cabinet transmitted from the tub. The vibration damping unit has a vibration member(122) of which one end is fixed in the side cabinet and the other end is extended to a lower part of the cabinet.
