The present invention is directed to a system and method which allows for the transfer of data captured by a medical device to be processed and moved to another location in accordance with pre-established criteria without req uiring user interaction at the time of data capture. In one embodiment, medi cal data are transferred to a remote medical information terminal in accorda nce with pre-established guidelines. In one embodiment, the medical device d etermines whether data has been received at a remote information receiver an d incrementally adjusts a communication parameter, such as transmit power, r eceive sensitivity and antenna gain/direction.
