PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display apparatus which has realized enhancement in contrast and has high display quality while raising a dynamic image performance by suppressing fall-off of display response speed when piling up two sheets of liquid crystal panels. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display apparatus 100 of this invention is constituted by optically piling up two or more normally black mode liquid crystal panels, and each liquid crystal panel outputs an image based on its video source. A 1st liquid crystal panel and a 2nd liquid crystal panel of the liquid crystal display apparatus 100 are provided with a gradation conversion part (1) 402a and a gradation conversion part (2) 402b (gradation conversion means), respectively, which performs conversion to a gradation value not lower than a threshold value when a gradation value not higher than the threshold value is input.
