PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hand dryer which is simplified in a structure around an air conduit, reduced in cost and improved in pressure loss in the air conduit. SOLUTION: The hand dryer 8 includes: a plurality of infrared emitting elements 20 of reflection type which are provided on a wall on the back side; and an infrared light receiving element 19 which is provided on the wall on the back side and receives the reflected infrared light emitted to the vicinity of a front side air nozzle 4 from a part of the infrared light emitting elements 20 for reflection type among the plurality of infrared light emitting elements 20 for reflection type and the reflected infrared light emitted to a drying process space on the back side from the front air nozzle 4 from the other part of the infrared light emitting elements for reflection type among the plurality of infrared light emitting elements 20 of reflection type.
