PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To terminate digest reproduction of unviewed program information by time desired by a user only by a simple operation for only depressing a digest reproduction key even in a busy time period such as morning. SOLUTION: A microcomputer 12 in this recording and reproducing device, when the digest reproduction key 20a is turned on, calculates reproduction time based on time when the reproduction key 20a is turned on and off time stored in a memory 13, edits program information so that the digest reproduction of the unviewed program information among pieces of program information recorded in a hard disk is terminated within the calculated reproduction time, performs the digest reproduction and after termination of the digest reproduction, deletes the program information of which the digest reproduction is performed from the hard disk. When a storage setting key 20b is operated during the digest reproduction, on the other hand, a digest reproduction program in the operation is stored as it is without being deleted even after the digest reproduction.
