A liquid crystal display is provided to improve image quality viewed from the sides as well as from the front by compensating distortion with first and second compensation films. A liquid crystal panel(100) includes a first substrate(110) and a second substrate(120) opposite to each other, having a liquid crystal layer(130) between the first substrate and the second substrate. A first polarizing plate(210) is attached on the first substrate, having a first polarizing film(216) having a transmission axis in a first direction and a biaxial first compensation film(217) interposed between the first substrate and the first polarizing film. A second polarizing plate(220) is attached on the second substrate, having a second polarizing film(226) having a transmission axis in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction and a uniaxial second compensation film(227) interposed between the second substrate and the second polarizing film. |
