<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain excellent image quality by appropriately controlling the operating condition of an image forming apparatus even under a condition that there is the possibility of dew condensation, in an image forming apparatus and an image forming method to control image density on the basis of a result obtained by detecting the density of a patch image. <P>SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus, the form of density control operation is changed in accordance with results obtained by detecting temperature and humidity in the apparatus in control operation for optimizing an image forming condition (S103 and S104). Under a condition that there is the high possibility of dew condensation, such pre-processing operation is performed that an operation to accelerate the elimination of the dew condensation is performed until the elimination of the dew condensation is confirmed (S105). Under a condition that there is the low possibility of dew condensation, the pre-processing is not performed and the density control operation is performed after performing only the setting of light quantity of a density sensor (S106). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
