PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source device for endoscopes which makes a large-sized light control system available and has a small loss of light. SOLUTION: The light source device consists of a first group of lenses to converge beam from a lamp as a light source, a second group of lenses for condensing the beam converged by the first lens group and then dispersing to a light guide after it passes the point of condensation, and a light control system placed between these first and second lens groups. The light source should satisfy the following requirement formula (1): 1.30<L(1/f1-1/x)<2.30, where L is an air interval between the first and second lens groups; f1 is a focal distance of the first lens group; and x is a distance from the point of condensation of the light source lamp to the principal point in front of the first lens group.
