PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stepping motor drive controller and a drive control method; capable of restraining the increase in the number of parts and suppressing the occurrence of vibration and noise, due to stepping motor, using a simple control. SOLUTION: The stepping motor 5 drive controller, which controls the drive frequency of the stepping motor 5 based on the calculated value input at a prescribed period, is equipped with a storage means 8 which stores the resonance frequency of the stepping motor 5, corresponding to the resonance characteristics of the stepping motor 5 as an output inhibited drive frequency, and a control means 7, which calculates the indication angle to operate a pointer 3 based on the calculated value, and to obtain the first drive frequency of the stepping motor 5 to determine whether the calculated first drive frequency is the output inhibited drive frequency, and when the first drive frequency is the output inhibited drive frequency, the first drive frequency is replaced by the second drive frequency lower than the output inhibited drive frequency to determine the drive frequency.
