PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of a rear plate for a PDP, capable of realizing a barrier rib to form a fine discharge cell capable of high definition display with high precision and at low cost. SOLUTION: This is the manufacturing method of a rear plate of a PDP to form an address electrode 32 and a barrier rib, in the order, on the rear board 31, and the step of forming the barrier rib includes a barrier rib material layer forming step of coating and forming a barrier rib material layer 60 on the rear board 31 covering the address electrode 32 throughout the outside region rather than the forming region A of the barrier rib, and a molding process of pressing the barrier rib material layer 60 by a molding die 50, having a first recessed part 51 corresponding to the shape of the barrier rib and a second recessed part 52 (54) provided at the outside region B than the forming region A of the barrier rib.
