PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a writing device and a writing method with which lowering of resolution in writing an image on a display medium having a plurality of photoconductive layers is suppressed. SOLUTION: The display medium which is equipped with a plurality of display elements each including a pair of electrodes, a photoconductive layer arranged between the pair of electrodes and exhibiting an electrical characteristic distribution corresponding to an intensity distribution of light of a predetermined wavelength region absorbed therewith, and a display layer to which a divided voltage distributed by a voltage applied to the pair of electrodes corresponding to the electrical characteristic distribution of the photoconductive layer is applied so as to display an image based on an optical characteristic distribution corresponding to the divided voltage, the display medium wherein the respective photoconductive layer included in the plurality of display elements absorb light of mutually different wavelength regions, is irradiated with exposure light via an optical means with axial chromatic aberration to condense respective light rays, included in the exposure light, of wavelength regions absorbed with the plurality of respective photoconductive layers on the respective photoconductive layers absorbing light rays of the respective wavelength regions of the display medium.
