The invention comprises the compounds 2-, 4- and 6-chloro-3-isopropylphenyl-N-methylcarbamate and a process for their preparation by reacting monochloro-m-isopropylphenol with methyl isocyanate or N-methylcarbamyl chloride, or with phosgene and subsequently methylamine. In the example a mixture of 2-, 4- and 6-chloro-3-isopropylphenol, obtained by chlorination of m-isopropylphenol with Cl2 gas, was reacted with phosgene giving chloro-m-isopropylphenyl chlorocarbonate which was subsequently reacted with methylamine. The individual isomers were separated by distillation.ALSO:An insecticidal composition comprises 6-chloro - 3 - isopropylphenyl - N - methylcarbamate (optionally admixed with the 2- and 4-chloro isomers) and an inert carrier. The composition may take the form of wettable powders, aqueous emulsions, dusts of clays mixed with the active ingredient or deodorized kerosene solutions thereof. Other toxicants such as toxaphene, DDT, thanite, chlordane, rotenone or pyrethrum may be present. Aqueous dispersions containing a surface-active agent are preferred (many of such agents being specified), but dispersions in e.g. alcohols, pine oil, hydrocarbon solvents and difluorodichloromethane-including aerosols in the latter-are also mentioned. |
