PROTON CONDUCTIVE ELECTROLYTE MEMBRANE, ITS MANUFACTURING METHOD, MEMBRANE-ELECTRODE ASSEMBLY USING IT, AND FUEL CELL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a proton conductive electrolyte membrane restraining permeation of electrolyte solution such as water and methanol, gas permeation of hydrogen and oxygen, and swelling by electrolyte solution, and yet excellent in mechanical strength, as well as its manufacturing method, and a membrane-electrode assembly as well as a fuel cell using it.

SOLUTION: The electrolyte membrane which has a porous base material having a plurality of micro pores and also having a proton conductive polymer composition which is held in the micro pores and which contains aromatic hydrocarbon resin having protonic acid group. Free water contained in the electrolyte membrane is 0.5 or less per one protonic acid group at 25°C and bound water contained in the electrolyte membrane is 1 or less per one protonic acid group at 25°C and a proton conductivity of the electrolyte membrane is 0.001 S/cm or more in water at 25°C, and a methanol permeability of the electrolyte membrane is 50 (kg×μm/m2×h) or less in 30 wt.% methanol at 25°C.
