PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a radio receiver capable of preventing noise from being output on starting a sound output of HD radio broadcasting of an all-digital system. SOLUTION: An S meter detector 9 detects the electric field strength of an IF signal, and a power detector 17 detects the strength of a signal passing through a bandpass filter 16 for making a signal of a prescribed frequency band pass among signals obtained by performing AM detection of the IF signal. A controller 18 judges whether to receive the HD radio broadcasting of an all-digital system on the basis of an output of the S meter detector 9 and the signal strength of an output signal of the bandpass filter 16, and controls a mute circuit 14 so as to make a time for muting a sound output on starting a sound output be a second time longer than a mute time (first time) on starting a sound output in receiving analog broadcasting or the like when the HD radio broadcasting of the all-digital system is received.
