A light emitting diode having uniform current density is provided to distribute uniformly current by preventing concentration of current on a P electrode forming part. A lower semiconductor layer(13) is formed on a substrate. An upper semiconductor layer is arranged on the lower semiconductor layer to expose edge regions of the lower semiconductor layer. An active layer is inserted between the lower semiconductor layer and the upper semiconductor layer. A lower electrode(21) is formed on the exposed lower semiconductor layer of the first edge part of the substrate. A transparent electrode layer(19) is formed on the upper semiconductor layer. An upper electrode(31) is formed on the transparent electrode layer of the second edge part of the substrate. A lower extension part(22) is extended from the lower electrode and is formed on the edge region of the exposed lower semiconductor layer. A first extension part(32) is extended in a diagonal direction from the upper electrode. A pair of second extension parts(33) are extended from an end part facing the upper electrode of the first extension part. The pair of the second extension parts are symmetric to the first extension part.
