PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance adhesion strength of color particles to a substrate and to improve retention property of a display screen. SOLUTION: A dispersion liquid 24 having light transmitting property is sealed between a display substrate 18 and a back substrate 28, as well as colored particles 32 that move according to an electric field generated between the substrates are sealed. A charging layer 34 having charging characteristics that positive and negative polarities can be alternately exchanged according to the electric field generated between the substrates is provided between the back substrate and the region where the color particles 32 are sealed so as to enhance the adhesion strength of the color particles 32 to the substrate by the charging characteristics of the charging layer 34.
