<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backlight unit capable of improving the light diffusing function without lowering the light condensing function, and reducing the irregularity in a linear light source. <P>SOLUTION: This backlight unit includes a plurality of linear light sources, and an optical functionality sheet on at least one surface of which a prism structure having a plurality of prism members is formed. A distance d between the linear light source and the optical functionality sheet is selected in such a manner that in a luminance distribution chart showing the distribution of luminance in the optical functionality sheet, a value of (H<SB>n-1</SB>+H<SB>n</SB>)/(A<SB>n</SB>-A<SB>n-1</SB>) is substantially constant. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
