<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical compensation film or optical compensation layer having excellent optical properties and mechanical characteristics. <P>SOLUTION: The optical compensation film or optical compensation layer is a film or layer comprising a fumaric ester resin, wherein the three-dimensional refractive index of the film or layer satisfies the relationship of nz>ny≥nx, wherein nx is a refractive index in a fast-axis direction of the film plane or layer plane; ny is a refractive index in an in-plane direction perpendicular to the fast axis direction; and nz is a refractive index in an out-of-plane vertical direction of the film or layer, and wherein a ratio (R450/R550) of a retardation measured at 450 nm to a retardation measured at 550 nm is ≤1.1. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
