摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal device which has both wide and narrow viewing angle display modes and can reduce image contrast when viewed from a predetermined direction, in the narrow viewing angle display mode. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal device has both wide and narrow viewing angle display modes, has a pair of polarizing plates having transmission axes, a display panel arranged between them and displaying an image, and a liquid crystal layer arranged between the pair of polarizing plates and adjacent to one of the pair of polarizing plates and composed of homogeneously aligned liquid crystal molecules, and is equipped with a viewing angle control panel to control the display viewing angle in the display panel. An alignment of the liquid crystal molecules (a direction of a liquid crystal alignment axis) of the viewing angle control panel is in a direction nearly parallel to the transmission axis of one of the polarizing plates. Thereby, the viewing angle range in a polar angle direction nearly orthogonal to the aligning direction of the liquid crystal molecules of the viewing angle control panel is restricted in the narrow viewing angle display mode, and in the concrete, the image contrast can be lowered. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
