摘要 <p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a membrane electrode assembly which serves as a high-performance membrane electrode assembly in which adhesion between a polyelectrolyte membrane and an electrode is strong and the superior physical properties of the polyelectrolyte membrane are exerted sufficiently, and show a high power generation characteristic when supplied with a highly concentrated methanol when the membrane electrode assembly applies to direct methanol type fuel battery. <P>SOLUTION: The membrane electrode assembly includes the polyelectrolyte membrane and electrodes disposed on both sides of the polyelectrolyte membrane. In the membrane electrode assembly, the polyelectrolyte membrane is pressure bonded by heat to the electrodes under heating temperatures ranging from a temperature -30°C or less below a lowest softening point to a temperature +10°C or less higher the softening point when the lowest softening point represents the lowest one of the softening points of high molecular compounds contained in the polyelectrolyte membrane. High adhesion is created between the polyelectrolyte membrane and electrodes and the deterioration of the physical properties of the polyelectrolyte membrane is suppressed.
