PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video display device employing chroma key composite that can display composite video of high quality free from standing out of a foreground subject and a flicker of a boundary area between the foreground subject and a background and to provide a video display method. SOLUTION: Composite display is provided by calculating transmissivities of a plurality of pixels at boundary parts between the foreground subject and background from the mixing ratio of respective reference colors of the foreground subject and of background to make the pixels translucent, and using reference colors of the foreground subject adjacent to a boundary area as color data of the plurality of pixels at the boundary parts.
