PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a rubber composition for a tire cap tread, satisfying both low fuel consumption and abrasion resistance. SOLUTION: The rubber composition for a tire cap tread comprises a rubber component containing≥15 wt.% of a terminal-modified diene-based rubber having a number-average molecular weight of 150,000-400,000 before the modification, a filler and 0.5-5 pts. by wt. based on 100 pts. by wt. of the rubber component of a compound (vulcanizing agent) represented by general formula (1) (R is a benzyl group; n is 3-12).
