METHOD FOR ALTERING THE COMPRESSION RATIO IN A VCR ENGINE

This is a method for altering the compression ratio in an internal combustion engine (1) comprising at least one combustion chamber (2) which involves the following steps, while the engine is running: a) measuring or estimating, at various moments staggered over time, the pressure p in the combustion chamber (2) in question, b) calculating over time the value of the mean effective pressure from said measurements or estimates of the pressure p, c) successively supplying said calculated values to at least one calculation algorithm that takes account of one or more maps relating the various physical operating parameters of the engine (1), and periodically at output supplying an updated compression ratio datum value.
