A method and a device for controlling a DDC-Ci(Display Data Channel Common interface) function of an image display device are provided to prevent an incorrect operation of the image display device by enable user to set turn-on/off of the DDC-Ci function and use a system stably by enabling the user to disable the DDC-Ci function. A switch(240) performs switching by receiving an image signal and a control signal from an external computer(100). An input signal processor(250) processes the image signal received from the switch. An image processor(260) processes the image signal received from the input signal processor into the signal to be displayed in a display unit. A display unit(270) displays the image signal processed by the image processor. Memories(220,230) store EDID(Extended Display ID Data) to display the image signal received from the input signal processor in the display unit. A signal determiner(290) determines whether the control signal is received from the external computer through the switch. A controller(300) enables a DDC-Ci function to be turned on/off according to a determination result of the signal determiner or a command received from a user. An OSD(Open Software Description) generator(310) creates a menu screen in OSD for a user to set up the on/off operation of DDC-Ci function according to a control signal from the controller.
