<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal device wherein desired transmittance is obtained in a transmission region and a reflection region when transflective display is performed using a liquid crystal layer having a liquid crystal showing optical isotropy when no electric field is applied and showing optical anisotropy proportional to a square of the intensity of an electric field when the electric field is applied and to provide an electronic device. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal device 100 is provided with the liquid crystal layer having the liquid crystal showing optical isotropy when no electric field is applied and showing optical anisotropy proportional to the square of the intensity of the electric field when the electric field is applied and a pair of substrates sandwiching the liquid crystal layer. In the liquid crystal device provided with a sub pixel region 9' wherein a reflection display region R to perform reflection display and a transmission display region T to perform transmission display are provided and first and second electrodes 9 and 19 provided in both regions of the reflection display region R and the transmission display region T in the sub pixel region 9', the liquid crystal layer is driven by the electric field generated between the first and the second electrodes 9 and 19 and the interval between the first electrode 9 and the second electrode 19 in the transmission display region T is shorter than that in the reflection display region R. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
