The gas sensor has an infrared radiation detector (6) for detecting incident infrared radiations (IR1, IR2) and for outputting measurement signals (S1, S2). A control device (2) controls two infrared radiation sources (3, 4) and receives the measurement signals. The control device controls the radiation source (3) for a measurement operation for detecting the gas concentration in a measurement chamber (7). The control device controls the radiation source (4) for an alternative measurement operation during the failure of the source (3) and/or for a qualitative evaluation of the source (3). An independent claim is also included for a method for spectroscopic measurement under utilization of a micromechanical spectroscopic gas sensor.
