Magnetic recording medium (1a) includes separator layer (50) as well as multiple magnet dots (13) capable of recording information by being heated, disposed on substratum (11). The separator layer (50) has such a structure that metal layers (52) and dielectric layers (51) are alternately superimposed one upon another in the in-plane direction of the substratum (11) and separates the magnet dots (13) from each other in the in-plane direction of the substratum (11). The individual magnet dots (13) separated from each other by the separator layer (50) at both ends thereof in the in-plane direction of the substratum (11) are in contact with the dielectric layers (51). Accordingly, there is provided magnetic recording medium (1a) that attains heating of all the magnet dots (13) while reducing electric power consumption for recording head.
