A state of the art vehicle (10) is normally equipped with two units (14) deformed in case of a crash in order to avoid a deformation of the passenger cabin. The units (14) are positioned at the rear of the side members (12) normally connected with a cross member. The new design of a crash compensating unit comprises a third deforming element (18) positioned in the center of the rear area. The cross member is no longer required. All three elements (14,18) can be covered by a lightweight shell (20) in the shape of a bumper, but with no crash compensating effect. |
