<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical compensating polarizing plate for improving display contrast and viewing field angle characteristics of display colors without decreasing front contrast when applied to an in-plane switching mode liquid crystal display device. <P>SOLUTION: In the optical compensating polarizing plate for the in-plane switching mode liquid crystal display device, an optical compensating layer is laminated on one side of a polarizing plate which is made by laminating transparent protective films on both sides of a polarizer. At least the transparent protective film of an optical compensating layer side is a cellulose acylate film, whose front retardation value Re and retardation value Rth in a film thickness direction satisfy a formula (I): ¾Re¾≤10, formula (II): ¾Rth¾≤25, and further a formula (VII): ¾Re<SB>(4 0 0)</SB>-Re<SB>(7 0 0)</SB>¾≤10 and ¾Rth<SB>(4 0 0)</SB>-Rth<SB>(7 0 0)</SB>¾≤35. A Nz factor and front retardation value Re<SB>1</SB>of the optical compensating layer satisfy a formula(V): 0.4≤Nz≤0.6, and a formula (VI): 100≤Re<SB>1</SB>≤350. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
