The generator (2) has a stator movably supported for its movement, and an anchor (10) movably supported to its rotation around an anchor axis, where the relative movement takes place in the area of reversal points between the stator and the anchor. The stator is arranged on a carriage, which is movably supported at a linear guide. The stator is designed as a stator piston (21), which is lengthwise pivotablysupported in a stator-cylinder chamber (17), and the anchor is designed as an anchor piston (18), which is lengthwise pivotably supported in an anchor-cylinder chamber (16). An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a linear generator.
