The device has a storage drum (14) with gripper systems (19, 20), which are arranged in channels. The gripper systems hold a sheet at leading and subsequent sheet edges. A turning drum (15) has a gripper system (21) for accepting the sheet from the storage drum at the subsequent edge. A drive is provided for synchronous revolution of the drums. Guidance elements cover the channels and are provided as plates. The storage drum has two lateral surface segments whose peripheral length is adjusted to length of the sheet.
