A process converts foul sludge residues arising from the anaerobic conversion of organic residues to methane. In the process, a drainage layer (4) is placed in a pond (1), which is then covered by a suitable root-growing substrate medium (7). Prior to its introduction into the pond, foul sludge (10) is subject to aerobic treatment, and is then repeatedly introduced into the pond above the substrate medium. The pond is planted with an aquatic plant e.g. reeds (8). The aerobic treatment is applied to pre-loosened sludge using compressed air blown into the sludge, which is then cooled prior to discharge into the pond. The root-growing medium has a network of compressed air discharge lines. The process reduces the sludge content of Ammonium Nitrate by more than 75 %. The sludge pH is set at above 10.
|
