PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide methods and apparatus that relates to the analysis of specimens, specifically the methods and apparatus for reviewing specimen slides, including apparatus for holding the slides, and also to provide an automatic focusing method for an imaging system, and a method for adjusting vibration in the imaging system. SOLUTION: Specifically, the methods and apparatus is applied for automatically analyzing cytological specimen slides. The apparatus for marking specimen includes: an optical instrument; a marker coupled to the optical instrument and disposed outside a field of view of the optical instrument; and a stage for receiving the specimen, wherein the stage is coupled to the optical instrument so that the stage moves the specimen between an inspection position in an optical path of the optical instrument and a marking position for marking the specimen with the marker.
