PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a means for cutting a casting strand and a steel workpiece by oxygen cutting in a continuous steel casting plant or on its downstream side, by which method and means, heating gas and heating oxygen can be variably discharged to a cutting torch by avoiding the time consumption adjustment of the cutting flame of the cutting torch. SOLUTION: In the method and the means for cutting the casting strand and the steel workpiece by the oxygen cutting method in the continuous casting plant or on its downstream side, the supply of the heating gas and heating oxygen to the cutting nozzle of the cutting torch for generating an optimum cutting flame by a pressure measuring and regulating valve (1) controlled by a membrane (9) comprising pressure and flow rate converters (16, 17, 18) based on a prescribed reference value is electrically and/or electronically adjusted and readjusted, or is intercepted and/or a prescribed maximum deviation from the reference value is confirmed, displayed, and made as a signal or is used for intercepting the cutting torch. The time consumption adjustment of the cutting flame of the cutting torch can be avoided, because the heating gas and the heating oxygen can be variably discharged to the cutting torch.
