The method involves providing material samples (2) with composition layers such as bioactive layer (3) and signal insulating layer, forming a reaction path. Biological or biochemical processes are activated and accelerated by the bioactive layer so that a specific acceleration of detection of time-dependant material properties and/or a reciprocal effect between an environment and material parameters are enabled. The samples are brought in contact with the environment, and micro organism fouling or microbial conditioned agglomeration or deposits are examined and evaluated. An independent claim is also included for a device for qualitative and/or quantitative detection or reflection of properties of materials.
