The device has a driving rotary shaft (1), and a set of radially projecting ripping units (4, 5) arranged in the shaft. Another driving rotary shaft (2) has another set of radially projecting ripping units arranged in the shaft (2), where the shafts are arranged in parallel next to each other. The shafts are provided for pressing a material e.g. paperboard container material, and for partially reducing the material using the ripping units. The ripping units of the shaft (1) are not overlapping with the ripping units of the shaft (2) in a direction of a shaft axis.
