Copolymers of a conjugated diolefin with a compound containing a single olefinic linkage are plasticized by adding to the copolymer latex an aqueous dispersion of an o,o1-diacyl amino diphenyl disulphide in which the acyl groups are identical and contain alkyl radicals of from 1-12 carbon atoms or cycloalkyl or aryl radicals of from 6-12 carbon atoms, coagulating the solids content of the latex, washing the coagulated solids and drying. The preferred disulphide is o,o1-dibenzamidodiphenyl disulphide though corresponding compounds in which the acyl groups contain methyl, ethyl, butyl, cyclohexyl, octyl, lauryl, phenyl, tolyl, xylyl or naphthyl groups may be used. From 0.5 to 5.0 per cent of the plasticizer is normally used. In examples the plasticizer is dispersed with the aid of an alkyl naphthalene sodium sulphonate condensed with formaldehyde in aqueous solution and then added to a latex of butadiene-styrene or -acrylonitrile copolymer also containing phenyl beta-naphthylamine, the mixture being coagulated with acetic acid or alum. Specifications 583,645 and 628,875, [Group V], are referred to.ALSO:Natural rubber and copolymers of a conjugated diolefins with a compound containing a single olefinic linkage are plasticized by adding to the latex of the elastomer an aqueous dispersion of an o,o1-diacyl amino diphenyl disulphide in which the acyl groups are identical and contain alkyl radicals of from 1-12 carbon atoms or cycloalkyl or aryl radicals of from 6-12 carbon atoms, coagulating the solids content of the latex, washing the coagulated solids and drying the washed material. The preferred disulphide is o,o1-dibenzamidodiphenyl disulphide through corresponding compounds in which the acyl groups contain methyl, ethyl, butyl, cyclohexyl, octyl, lauryl, phenyl, tolyl, xylyl or naphthyl groups may be used. From 0.5 to 5.0 per cent of the plasticizer is normally used. In examples the plasticizer is dispersed with the aid of an alkyl naphthalene sodium sulphonate condensed with formaldehyde in aqueous solution and then added to a latex of natural rubber, or butadiene-styrene or -acrylonitrile copolymer also containing phenyl beta naphthylamine, the mixture being coagulated with acetic acid or alum.
