<p>The vessel has a rudder (1) and a propeller (2). The rudder is hollow and has walls (5). The propeller is fitted on a shaft (3) of a hydraulic motor (4), which is outboard in relation to the vessel and located in the rudder. The propeller extends from the rudder and the propeller and rudder can rotate through 360 degrees for optimal manoeuvrability of the vessel. The walls of the rudder form an enclosed space for the motor. Where the shaft penetrates through the rudder is a seal (10), preventing access to the motor of water surrounding the rudder. A primary conduit (6) feeds oil under high pressure to the motor inlet (8). Oil under low pressure coming from a motor outlet flows firstly through the hollow rudder, from which it is fed via a secondary outlet (7). The primary and secondary conduits extend through a small aperture in the bottom of the vessel. This aperture typically has a diameter of 75 mm. The primary conduit is coaxially located within the secondary conduit. A double reverse ring (20) prevents water being forced into the vessel. Oil flows via an outflow aperture (11) in the secondary conduit into a buffer tank (12), where it is held in the upper part by a simple reverse ring (21). Via conduit (22) connected to the buffer tank, the oil flows to an inlet of a hydraulic pump, so that it is brought again under high pressure. The pump is driven by a diesel engine, and the pressurized oil is fed again to the primary conduit. This causes it to be circulated in a specific circulation circuit. The oil coming from the motor at low pressure is heated and flows along an inner surface of the rudder walls. The heat is thus fed to the water flowign along the rudder. This means that the rudder acts as a cooler and no special heat exchanger is necessary.</p> |
