A multiple speed transmission for automotive vehicles, comprises an input <B>(28)</B> and an output (70); a first epicyclic gearing assembly <B>(30,31)</B> including a first clutch <B>(CL3)</B>, a first brake (B1), a second brake (B2), and first (A), second (B), third (C) and fourth (C) rotating members, said first clutch <B>(CL3)</B> being operable to couple said first rotating member <B>(A)</B> to the input (28), said first brake <B>(B1)</B> being operable to hold said fourth rotating member (D) against rotation, and said second brake <B>(B2)</B> being operable to hold said second rotating member <B>(B)</B> against rotation; and a second epicyclic gearing assembly <B>(32,33)</B> including a second clutch <B>(CL1)</B>, a third clutch <B>(CL2)</B>, a third brake (B3), and fifth (E), sixth (F), seventh (G) and eighth (H) rotating members, the third rotating member (C) being secured to the eighth rotating member (H), said second control clutch <B>(CL1)</B> being operable to couple said fifth (E) rotating member to the input (28), said second control clutch <B>(CL1)</B> being operable to couple said seventh (G) rotating member to the input (28), said third brake <B>(B3)</B> being operable to hold the seventh (G) rotating member against rotation, and said sixth rotating member (F) being secured for rotation to the output (70). |
