A liquid crystal aligning composition is provided to obtain a liquid crystal aligning layer having excellent coatability, aligning property, thermal stability and after-image improving effect. A liquid crystal aligning composition comprises a branched oligoimide or branched oligoamic acid having a weight average molecular weight of 500-30,000 and containing a terminal heat curable or photocurable functional group. The branched oligoimide or branched oligoamic acid is represented by the following formula 1. In formula 1, A is a C3 or C4 symmetric amine; B is an oligoimide or oligoamic acid; C is a heat curable or photocurable functional group; and n is the number of repeating units equal to or higher than 3.
