A method and an apparatus for transmitting multimedia information are provided to convert the format of information received from plural terminals supporting different information formats or encoding methods, thereby effectively transceiving information between the plural terminals. A PBX(Private Branch Exchange)(110) converts and switches a first format of multimedia information into a second format of multimedia information. The Internet(120) is a type of an IP(Internet Protocol) network operating on the basis of an IP. A PC(Personal Computer) soft phone(130) is installed to a PC as a PC software program to provide a wired video call service. An IP video phone(140) provides the wired video call service by using a VoIP(Voice over Internet Protocol) protocol. An AP(Access Point)(150) helps a wireless IP terminal(160) to access the Internet by using a wireless signal. The wireless IP terminal provides a wireless video call service. A PSTN(Public Switched Telephone Network)(170) provides a normal public phone service. A PSTN video phone(180) provides a video call service through the PSTN.
